Reverse engineering & 3D scanning in Mexico
Structured-light scanning and parametric CAD reconstruction in Puebla. For obsolete tooling with no drawing, for parts nobody can prove conform, and for fixtures that need to copy real geometry instead of theoretical geometry.
Three situations turn 3D scanning from a nice-to-have into the only sensible way forward. All three are routine inside Mexico's manufacturing corridors, where a great deal of installed tooling predates the CAD files that should describe it.
The part exists, the drawing does not
This is the common one. A tooling component that has been in the line for fifteen years, made by a supplier who has since closed, with no file anywhere. When it breaks there is nothing to start from.
We scan what survived, rebuild the geometry as a parametric solid — not a converted mesh — and deliver the model in STEP. From that point the part is reproducible by you, or by anyone you choose, permanently.
The drawing exists, but nobody can prove the part conforms
On complex geometry, point-by-point measurement is slow and leaves gaps. Scanning captures the entire surface and compares it against the nominal model, producing a color deviation map where the problem is immediately visible.
The output is a dimensional report you can put in front of your customer or your supplier as evidence, not as an opinion.
The fixture has to copy the real form
When we build a checking fixture with free-form locating surfaces, we scan the real part and machine the nests from that geometry rather than the theoretical model. The part seats without being forced, and the fixture measures the characteristic instead of the distortion it caused.
On-site scanning and file delivery
For parts that cannot leave the plant — size, running line, or internal policy — we bring the equipment and scan on site, within your access window.
In every case you receive the files: STL mesh, CAD model and report. They are yours even if someone else does the machining. We quote scanning as a standalone service; there is no requirement to buy the manufacturing from us.
Frequently asked
What do I receive at the end?
An STL mesh, a solid model in STEP (and native format if you need it) and, where the job includes it, a PDF dimensional report with a color deviation map.
Is the delivered model editable?
Yes. We rebuild a parametric solid with real surfaces and features rather than converting a mesh. The difference shows the moment you want to modify the part.
Can you scan at our plant?
Yes, and it is routine for large parts or parts that cannot be stopped. We work within your access window.
Do I have to buy the machining from you?
No. Scanning and reconstruction stand alone as a service.
How accurate is it?
Equipment accuracy is listed on our capabilities page. In practice it is sufficient for tooling reverse engineering and automotive dimensional reporting, which is what we use it for daily.
